研究方向为水域生态学和浮游植物生态学。以我国南亚热带水库生态系统为研究对象,基于水库水质和生态系统长期观测,结合生理生态学实验、生态统计和数学模型等方法,探究水库浮游植物群落多样性维持机制和季节演替机制。依托“广东省水库蓝藻水华防治中心”和“广东省水库蓝藻水华防治工程技术研究中心”,研发水库蓝藻水华防治应急除藻技术和设计生态管理方案,参与多座大型供水水库生态管理方案的制定,以及典型城市供水水库水质改善生态工程。主持国家基金项目1项,厅局级和横向项目10项,获批专利5项,发表论文30余篇。建立了我国南亚热带水库浮游植物种类名录并主编出版专著《珠海市水库常见浮游植物种类多样性与图谱》,参编专著《Tropical and sub-tropical reservoir limnology in China》。参与三部本科教材《湖沼学导论》《湖沼学内陆水生态系统》《湖泊与池塘生物学(第二版)》的翻译。担任《Water research》 《Ecological indicate》 《Hydrobiologia》《Aquatic ecology》《Journal of Ecology and Natural Environment》《湖泊科学》《中国环境科学》《应用与环境生物学报》《生态科学》等期刊审稿专家。
